Going back to work

This time next week I will have to return to work. I do love my job, but I love spending time with my sweet little doodlebug more!! Over the past 6 weeks, I have learned her cries, facial expressions, wants and needs. It is going to kill me not knowing what she is doing all day! I am very fortunate that my mom is going to watch AK while John and I are working, but that does not make it any easier. I hope and pray that one day I will be about to stay home everyday! :) (If you have mosquito problems, you better call John! Safe Spray just might be my out one day!!) On a happy note, AK's annoucements were sent out this week. I hope everyone got them and love them! How am I going to leave this sweet face every morning?!?!?

Abby Kate rolling over at 2.5 weeks

Man! Cute Baby Clothes are EXPENSIVE!! I think I will learn to sew! :)

I have decided that since baby clothes are so expensive, I am going to learn how to make them myself. Before Abby Kate arrived, I spent some time with my grandmother learning how to sew. She is an amazing seamstress! She can sew absolutely anything! She has a shop on Etsy where she sells some of the cute little outfits that she hand makes. (the name of her shop is Happy Hearts) I only to hope to be half as good at sewing as she is. Now that AK is getting where she can get out of the house, I have started my sewing lessons with MawMaw Cheryl again. This week we are working on an Easter and Valentine's outfit for AK. The first outfit we made was for Christmas. It was a pillow sack dress. Apparently it is only supposed to take 30 minutes to sew a pillow sack dress, however it took me over 4 hours!! :) We are almost finished with the super cute Easter dress. It is a little more difficult than the pillow sack dress, but I think I am not making near as many mistakes as I did with the Christmas dress. We decided to use a periwinkle polka dot fabric for the the dress with a cute little bunny applique. Tomorrow we will finish the buttons and the Easter dress will be complete! Next up- Valentines Dress!

My very first dress :)

To prepare yourself, start studying Daddy's Rules for Dating.
Daddy's Rules for DatingYour dad's rules for your boyfriend (or for you if you're a guy) :
Rule One:If you pull into my driveway and honk you'd better be delivering a package, because you're sure not picking anything up.
Rule Two:You do not touch my daughter in front of me. You may glance at her, so long as you do not peer at anything below her neck. If you cannot keep your eyes or hands off of my daughter's body, I will remove them..
Rule Three:I am aware that it is considered fashionable for boys of your age to wear their trousers so loosely that they appear to be falling off their hips. Please don't take this as an insult, but you and all of your friends are complete idiots. Still, I want to be fair and open minded about this issue, so I propose this compromise: You may come to the door with your underwear showing and your pants ten sizes too big, and I will not object. However, in order to ensure that your clothes do not, in fact come off during the course of your date with my daughter, I will take my electric nail gun and fasten your trousers securely in place to your waist.
Rule Four:I'm sure you've been told that in today's world, sex without utilizing a 'Barrier method' of some kind can kill you. Let me elaborate, when it comes to sex, I am the barrier, and I will kill you.
Rule Five:I t is usually understood that in order for us to get to know each other, we should talk about sports, politics, and other issues of the day. Please do not do this. The only information I require from you is an indication of when you expect to have my daughter safely back at my house, and the only word I need from you on this subject is: 'early.'
Rule Six:I have no doubt you are a popular fellow, with many opportunities to date other girls. This is fine with me as long as it is okay with my daughter. Otherwise, once you have gone out with my little girl, you will continue to date no one but her until she is finished with you. If you make her cry, I will make you cry.
Rule Seven:As you stand in my front hallway, waiting for my daughter to appear, and more than an hour goes by, do not sigh and fidget. If you want to be on time for the movie, you should not be dating. My daughter is putting on her makeup, a process than can take longer than painting the Golden Gate Bridge . Instead of just standing there, why don't you do something useful, like changing the oil in my car?
Rule Eight:The following places are not appropriate for a date with my daughter: Places where there are beds, sofas, or anything softer than a wooden stool Places where there is darkness. Places where there is dancing, holding hands, or happiness. Places where the ambient temperature is warm enough to induce my daughter to wear shorts, tank tops, midriff T-shirts, or anything other than overalls, a sweater, and a goose down parka - zipped up to her throat. Movies with a strong romantic or sexual themes are to be avoided; movies which feature chain saws are okay. Hockey games are okay. Old folks homes are better.
Rule Nine:Do not lie to me. I may appear to be a potbellied, balding, middle-aged, dimwitted has-been. But on issues relating to my daughter, I am the all-knowing, merciless god of your universe. If I ask you where you are going and with whom, you have one chance to tell me the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I have a shotgun, a shovel, and five acres behind the house. Do not trifle with me.
Rule Ten:Be afraid. Be very afraid. It takes very little for me to mistake the sound of your car in the driveway for a chopper coming in over a rice paddy near Hanoi . When my Agent Orange starts acting up, the voices in my head frequently tell me to clean the guns as I wait for you to bring my daughter home. As soon as you pull into the driveway you should exit the car with both hands in plain sight. Speak the perimeter password, announce in a clear voice that you have brought my daughter home safely and early, then return to your car - there is no need for you to come inside. The camouflaged face at the window is mine.
***Careful, or you'll end up in my novel***

Building a New Home!!!

Wow! Building a house is a lot of fun, but oh my goodness is it stressful! Not only did John and I find out that we were expecting little miss priss, we also moved to Auburn, both got new jobs, and started building a new home. After several weeks of deliberation, John and I finally settled on a builder and a lot. We are so excited about our new home. It is in a wonderful family oriented neighborhood, with lots of trees, and we are on a lake! I cannot wait to sit on my back porch and drink a glass of wine while looking over the lake! I am most excited about AK's bed and bath rooms and my fabulous dining room! (pictures coming soon!)

Mommy and Daddy's Christmas Present

Welcome Abigail Katelyn Carney!

When John and I found out in August that we were having a little girl, the big question was.... What will she look like?? John and I look completely different. John is 6'3", dark hair, dark skin, and dark eyes. I am 5'2", light hair, light skin, and light eyes. What will Abby Kate look like? Light features or dark features???
I had a wonderful pregnancy. I did not experience morning sickness; however I was extremely tired during my first and third trimester. I loved feeling her move around in my belly! It was such a strange feeling that I really miss now that she is here. I have to admit that around 30 weeks, I was ready for her to be here. I knew she was going to be a large, healthy baby. I felt like she was kicking me in my ribs! :) I did love feeling her little hiccups!
Saturday December 17th, my water broke while John and I were eating spaghetti on the couch. I called the hospital to make sure it was my water breaking... and they initially said that it wasn't. So I sat back down to eat. John googled "symptoms of water breaking" and we watched this YouTube video with a doctor explaining different symptoms. Welp while watching this video...... the doctor said... "some feel a pop in the belly". Right after she said that, I felt a pop. It scared me to death. I stood up and then came my water! I was scheduled to be induced on the 21st so everything wasn't packed. I had her bag packed and a few of my things but not everything. We rushed to get our things together and head to the hospital. When we got to the hospital around 8pm, I was 3cm dilated and my contractions were not that strong. BUT boy did that change quickly! 30 minutes later I was already 7 cm and in a ton of pain! I was scared to death that I would not be able to get an epidural because I was still on my first bag of saline, and I was dilating quickly. FINALLY when I was around 8 cm, I was able to get my epidural, however it didn't fully take the first time. I can honestly say that labor contractions are the most pain I have ever experienced. Poor John was freaking out because I could barely talk. He accidently spilled an entire sprite on my head! :)

At 2:09 am we got to meet little miss Abby Kate! She had the most beautiful head of black hair! I never knew you could love someone so much! I cannot explain the feeling I had when I got to meet her for the first time. After months of pondering who she would look like.... She looks just like her daddy! However, I think she looks like my baby pictures. What do you think?

Whoa it is been awhile since I have updated this blog!

A lot has happened since my last post in June of 2010. John and I have moved from our little cottage in Atlanta back to Auburn, AL, Auburn won the 2010 National Championship , and We found out in April that God has blessed us with a little surprise!! With this amazing news, we made the decision to leave Atlanta and move back home to Auburn. We are currently building a house that is expected to be completed the beginning of February.

Since it has been over a year since I have updated my blog, I am going to try and go back and post some of the things that I have missed leading up to our cute bundle of joy.
